The CASEL Program Guide identifies well-designed, evidence-based social and emotional learning programs with potential for broad dissemination to schools across the United States.
The Program Guide review process focuses on SEL programs and approaches that fulfill the following criteria:
Designed to be implemented with a universal population of students who are within a grade range that spans from pre-K through 12th.
Comprehensive approaches for promoting students’ development across five core social-emotional competencies that have written documentation to provide a sufficient level of detail in order to ensure the consistency and quality of program delivery.
Offer training and ongoing support to interested schools or districts, and have the capacity to provide initial training and ongoing support to a wide audience in the United States. This includes written documentation of their approach for promoting students’ social and emotional development, providing sufficiently detailed instructions to ensure consistency and high quality of program delivery.
Have at least one carefully conducted evaluation that (1) includes a comparison group, (2) is implemented in a universal setting with students within a grade range from pre-K through 12th, (3) is based on pre- and posttest measurement, and (4) demonstrates a statistically significant (p < .05) positive impact on student behavioral outcomes.
